Former India cricketer, Aakash Chopra has questioned that can Rohit Sharma take Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to an IPL title just like he seen Mumbai Indians (MI) bagging five IPL titles since 2013. Aakash Chopra’s comments came after Gautam Gambhir said that Sharma should be made captain of the national team in the T20 format replacing Virat Kohli.

Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians to their fifth IPL title in Dubai by defeating the Delhi Capitals in the final of IPL 2020. Along with fans, several experts have also opined that the MI skipper should be given the reins of the national team in the shortest format.

Of those, Gautam Gambhir has been the most vocal one and has made some bold statements. The left-hander, without any hesitation, said that it would be the loss of the Indian cricket team if Rohit isn’t made the captain soon.

Should Kohli be punished if his IPL team doesn’t do well?: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra in an interaction with his fans talked about Gautam Gambhir’s views that it would be the nation’s misfortunes, and not Rohit’s if the right-hander isn’t made India’s T20I captain.

However, Aakash Chopra seems to not concur completely with the left-hander’s views. The commentator asks that would Rohit be successful in winning titles if he is given this RCB team as much as he is with the MI team?

While Chopra acknowledged the fact that Rohit is an outstanding captain, however, you cannot equate MI’s success story with India. He also stated that just because other players in the RCB team haven’t performed well, that doesn’t mean Kohli is at fault.

In a video shared on his Facebook page, Aakash Chopra said, “Gautam Gambhir believes that it is the nation’s misfortune if Rohit Sharma is not made the Indian T20I captain because he is the most successful captain in the IPL.

“But I have a question that if Rohit was given the RCB team, which is there with Kohli, will he have won two, three or four out of the five titles MI have won? Rohit as a captain is outstanding, I love him to bits but can the Mumbai Indians’ success story be equated with India, that is my question. Just because Kohli’s team does not do well, does it mean that is Kohli’s fault?”

Rohit Sharma is rested from the ODI and T20I series against Australia, despite playing the last three games for Mumbai Indians after returning from injury. While the entire Indian team has reached Australia and is in quarantine, Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma will undergo fitness tests and will participate in the Test series.
