CPL 2018: Shoaib Malik Appointed as Skipper of Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchise Guyana Amazon Warriors named star all-rounder Shoaib Malik as the skipper of the 2018 edition of the tournament for its team.

Malik has been the skipper of Pakistan for a considerable amount of time. The CPL 2018 edition will commence from 8th August. The final of the tournament will be played on 16th September.

Malik is one of those very few players who has played 103 Twenty20 Internationals for his national team. He has also represented Pakistan in 264 One-day Internationals.

The veteran batsman had also led the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans. Malik was looking forward to the opportunity. He expressed his excitement on the challenge which beckons.

“Over the last few seasons I really enjoyed my time with the Hero CPL as a player with the Barbados Tridents and now I look forward with great pride to captain the Guyana Amazon Warriors in this year’s tournament,” said Malik in a statement which was released by the CPL.

“The Amazon Warriors have really done well over the years and I hope that being part of a really impressive team means we will challenging for the title at the end of the season,” the top T20 all-rounder added.

Meanwhile, the chief coach of the Amazon Warriors, Johan Botha also expressed his excitement at the opportunity to work with Shoaib Malik.

Simultaneously, it might well turn out to be a good competition. They will definitely look to gel well together.

Botha’s expectations:

“It’s great to have the experience of Shoaib leading us this year. He is a very calm leader which will be great in pressure situations on the field,” he said.

 

“I worked with him earlier this year in the Pakistan Super League so we come into the CPL and the Guyana Amazon Warriors team with a good working relationship and understanding of each other,” added Botha.
