CPL 2019: Lasith Malinga, Alex Hales Earn Big In CPL Draft

England star Alex Hales and Sri Lanka duo Lasith Malinga and Isuru Udana earned big money deals in the 2019 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) draft. All the three players earned USD 160,000 each after being picked up in the first round. Hales went to Barbados Tridents, Malinga to St Lucia Stars, and Udana to St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.

Talking about big names from the Caribbeans,  Andre Russell and Dwayne Bravo were retained by Jamaica Tallawahs and Trinbago Knight Riders respectively. Knight Riders also decided to retain the services of Sunil Narine, Colin Munro, Denesh Ramdin and Khary Pierre.

Pakistan star Shadab Khan, who helped Knight Riders win the title in 2017 with 12 wickets, will now represent Guyana Amazon Warriors. Shadab will replace Afghanistan star Rashid Khan will is set to play in the Euro T20 slam as a marquee player. Along with Rashid, some other big names like Brendon McCullum and Chris Lynns have also decided to take part in the Euro T20 slam. The T20 tournament that will start from August 30 this year will clash with the CPL.

Meanwhile, allrounder Kieron Pollard will play for Knight Riders after representing St Lucia Stars last year. Stars, on the other hand, have secured the services of Australian allrounder Fawad Ahmed. Representing the Knight Riders last season, Fawad was the highest wicket-taker in the CPL with 22 scalps. The Stars also signed up Sri Lanka’s wicketkeeper-batsman Niorshan Dickwella.

Amazon Warriors have snapped up highly-rated wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran who played for Barbados Tridents last year. The Warriors have also retained Sherfane Rutherford and Keemo Paul. Chris Gayle, who led St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to a creditable third place last season, has returned to Tallawahs as their marquee cricketer.  Jason Holder is the marquee player for Tridents.

In other big transfers, Tridents signed up Nepal legspinner, Sandeep Lamichhane. The Barbados-based outfit also retained Wahab Riaz, and picked up Dominic Drakes. USA batsman Steven Taylor, who was a part of the CPL since 2015, missed out, while Nitish Kumar (Canada) was the only other North American player picked to play for St Lucia Stars.
