West Indies allrounder Dwayne Bravo has become the first-ever bowler in the history of the game to take 500 wickets in T20s. The right-arm pacer achieved the feat in the ongoing clash between Trinbago Knight Riders and St Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
He dismissed Zouks’ opener Rahkeem Cornwall to achieve the incredible feat. Dwayne Bravo has reached the milestone in his 459th game. At the time of compiling this report, he had picked up another wicket in the form of Roston Chase to take his tally to 501.
No other bowler in the world has managed to touch even the 400-mark so far. Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga is second in the list with 390 wickets from 295 games. Sunil Narine, Imran Tahir and Sohail Tanvir complete the top five. No Indian features in the top ten of highest wicket-takers in T20s. At 20th spot, Amit Mishra is the highest ranked Indian bowler with 253 wickets.
Here is the list showing top ten bowlers with highest wickets in T20s:
|Player||Matches||Wickets||Best bowling innings|
|Shakib Al Hasan||308||354||6/6|
The 36-year old, who has helped West Indies win two T20 World Cups so far, has picked up 9 four-wicket hauls and two five-wicket hauls in T20s. One of the most experienced and decorated allrounders in the history of the shortest format, the West Indies star has also scored 6,313 runs with the help of 20 fifties.
Dwayne Bravo will be playing for Chennai Super Kings next month when the Indian Premier League (IPL) gets underway. The thirteenth edition of the IPL will be played entirely in UAE due to the coronavirus pandemic situation in India. IPL 2020 is scheduled to take place from September 19 to November 10.
All the teams with Indians players and some overseas stars have already reached UAE. With the CPL ending on September 10, Dwayne Bravo is likely to join the Super Kings’ camp by mid-September. Along with him, his Super Kings teammate Imran Tahir, who is playing for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL, will also leave for UAE after the tournament in the Caribbeans.
