Cricket To Resume Action Before Other Sports In England, Claims ECB

Cricket will be leading the sport re-opening plan in England, the country’s cricket governing board claimed on Sunday. The board had banned competitive cricket in the county till July 1 but as England plans to resume sporting events, cricket has been asked to lead the way, according to the chief executive of the board Tom Harrison.

However, a firm decision on resuming the sport season in England is yet to be taken, as everything is on the speculatory stage. According to reports, the Premier League is eyeing a resumption on June 8, behind closed doors and will reach towards the fag end of the tournament by July 27.

Cricket has been asked to lead DCMS: ECB

British government’s Department of Culture, Media and Sports (DCMS) has asked the cricket board to lead the way ahead of horse racing, tennis and rugby, according to the cricket board chief. However, the board is still in discussion with the Premier League as they are facing similar problems.

“The ECB has been asked to lead by DCMS across football, horse racing, tennis and rugby,” Harrison said in comments reported by the website Cricinfo.

“There has been a lot of communication between sports, particularly around health, as we are trying to guarantee safety.

“I had a conference call with the head of the FA (Football Association) and the RFU (Rugby Football Union) about a range of topics: working together; how we share information about playing behind closed doors. I’m speaking to the Premier League later. We’re facing very similar challenges and taking decisions as a sector,” he said.

The DCMS has however denied to make any comments on the development and relying on a number of sport bodies to show how things should proceed if there is a green signal to resume affair by the medical staffs.
