SA Vs IND, 2018: CSA releases Temba Bavuma from South Africa’s Test Squad

Cricket South Africa on Tuesday has released promising batsman Temba Bavuma during the ongoing Penultimate Test in Centurion as the middle-order batsman is going to represent his domestic side.

Interestingly, the 27-year-old Bavuma was filling the place of AB de Villiers, who had already recovered from the back injury after skipper Faf du Plessis missed out the historic four-day-night Test against Zimbabwe due to the infection.

Following the release of the 27-year-old Cape Town-born Bavuma, who is further featuring in the ongoing Momentum One-day Cup 2017-18.

The livewire on the field Bavuma is expected to take the field for Cape Cobras under the leadership of Jean-Paul Duminy as soon as possible.

Cobras are bound to face Knights-led by Ryan McLaren on January 17 (Wednesday) at Newlands in Cape Town.

But the reports suggested he could feature against Highveld Lions on January 19 (Friday) at Boland Park in Paarl.

The Test specialist Bavuma is known for his fielding and has somewhat been Proteas part of the Test fold in recent past after making his Test debut in 2014 against Windies at Port Elizabeth.

However, Bavuma has not made an appearance in the ongoing three-match Sunfoil Test series, and the final match is scheduled to be played in Johannesburg on January 24 (Wednesday).

Earlier, all-rounder Chris Morris, Andile Phehlukwayo and Duanne Olivier were released for the domestic competition by the Board.

It’s has been expected that Wanderer’s surface is lush green and the extra batsman is on the cards for the hosts. However, Bavuma could be in contention with a week to go for the final Test fixture.

Bavuma has played a decent role for South Africa in the Test fold which saw him playing 27 Tests as he scored 1,259 runs at an average of 33.13.

Considered as unlucky, Bavuma has a solitary hundred under his belt which came against England at his home ground (102* off 148) during the Basil D’Oliveira Trophy.

Concluding, Bavuma has featured in two One-day Internationals to don the colored jersey which saw him scoring 161 at the average of 80.50. He has a hundred to his name.
