Darren Lehmann to Return to International Cricket With Commentary Deal

After being out of the cricketing arena for the last four-odd months, Darren Lehmann is all set to return to international cricket summer. The former Australian coach will be part of the Macquarie Sports Radio owing to his fresh commentary deal. Lehmann in his return will give his knowledge as a player and a coach. He had made his debut back in the late 1980’s.

It has been a tough few months for Australian cricket and also includes Lehmann. He resigned from his post following the infamous ball-tampering scandal which unfolded in Cape Town back in March.

“I’m excited to be joining Macquarie Radio’s Summer of Cricket and can’t wait to get started,” Lehmann said. It’s a great team and we’re going to have a lot of fun.

“It’s an opportunity for me to share an insight into how the Australian team runs and the intricacies of each player. I love the game I played and coached and want to see it continue to grow. I love the players; always have and always will. Go Aussies!,” Lehmann said.

The former Australian represented Australia in 27 Tests and 117 ODI’s.

Darren Lehmann has been part of two World Cup winning teams

He has been part of the Australian team which has lifted the World Cup on two occasions. Lehmann was expected to be the coach of Australia till the Ashes 2019. However, he resigned following the ball-tampering controversy which surfaced in Cape Town.

Meanwhile, Lehmann has been working with the Bupa Cricket Academy Centre (BCAC)  in Brisbane. Meanwhile, it must be noted that CA struck a six-month deal with Macquarie, ABC and Crocmedia for the radio rights to broadcast cricket in Australia. Lehmann’s tenure with CA will end in October.

It was believed that Darren Lehmann had some role in the ball-tampering scandal. Video footages showed Lehmann talking over the walkie-talkie to Peter Handscomb in the dugout. It would be interesting to see how Lehmann would fair in his commentary stint.

The video footage showed that Handscomb interacting with Cameron Bancroft following Lehmann’s signal. Bancroft tried to put the sandpaper under his pants which was caught on camera. However, Lehmann was not part of the plan.
