Sunrisers Hyderabad have retained their captain David Warner in their side in the player retention event along with seam bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Both Warner and Kumar were the key players in the 2016 season which the Hyderabad franchise eventually won. Warner was named the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2015 and Warner won the Orange cap in that edition of the league. SRH narrowly missed out on a playoff spot in the same season.
Warner has played 59 matches for SRH and has 2,579 runs to his name over a four year period. A day after the Ashes triumph, Warner expressed his happiness on being retained by the SRH management. He wrote on his Twitter account:
“The moment I got asked to stay @SunRisers. I am extremely excited to be retained. Looking forward… https://www.instagram.com/p/BdtgTCZnnmq/”

Warner and Kumar were chosen by the SRH management over the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh, Mustafizur Rehman and Afghanistan’s leg-spinner Rashid Khan.
