The leading run-getter for the England team during the recently concluded Ashes series Down Under, Dawid Malan has been appointed as the captain of Middlesex across all formats.
Earlier, Malan was handed over the captaincy of the county side during the T20 season of 2016. Now the southpaw replaces James Franklin for the role of captain.
The batsmanship of 30-year old left-hander was the only silver lining for the England team in what was a dismal tour of Australia, losing the urn to the Australians by a margin of 4-0.
However, Malan starred in the first inning of the Perth Test match where he scored a spirited knock of 140, putting England in a competitive position before the marathon partnership between Mitchell Marsh and Steven Smith overshadowed his efforts.

Malan, after being announced the new captain, looked forward to his new challenge and tagged it as a privilege to lead a side with a glorious history.
“I am honoured to have been asked to captain Middlesex, following in the footsteps of many great players and captains. Middlesex Cricket has a proud and distinguished history and it is a privilege for me to be part of writing the next chapter,” claimed Dawid Malan according to Cricbuzz.
The elegant batsman intends to compete hard in both the domestic one-day competition and also retain their position in Division One of Championship.
“As a squad, we are looking forward to the new season, determined to win back our position in Division One of the championship and to compete strongly in both one day competitions! “We have a well-balanced squad with established internationals and promising youngsters and I am excited by the additional challenge of captaincy,” added Malan.
That said, Malan’s international commitments might jeopardize his chances of leading the squad in Royal London One-Day Cup and T20 competition.
“England commitments could potentially take Dawid away from our Royal London One-Day Cup and T20 sides and if this takes place the club will react accordingly,” claimed the Managing Director of Middlesex Angus Fraser.
