Dawid Malan, England left-handed batsman, has shrugged off his comparisons with Indian superstar Virat Kohli, adding that he isn’t anywhere as good as the champion Indian batsman.

Malan has got off to a whirlwind start to his T20I career. The left-hander, who made his T20I debut last year against New Zealand, has amassed eight 50-plus scores in just 15 innings, and his average of 50.84 is the best among any batsmen who have played at least 15 innings in the shortest format of the game at the international level, leapfrogging Virat Kohli, who averages 50.8 after 76 innings.

“I don’t think I’m anywhere near as good as Virat Kohli and those guys even though the numbers are sort of suggesting that. Maybe if I played 50 games I could be compared to some extent. But all I can do is score runs,” Dawid Malan was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Dawid Malan focussed on nailing his spot in England’s first-choice T20I line-up

Malan, who registered scored of 66 and 42 in England’s successive victories over Australia in the ongoing T20I series, is, however, yet to cement his place in Eoin Morgan’s first-choice T20I line-up. Morgan had recently said that Jonny Bairstow =, Jos Buttler, and Jason Roy will be England’s first-choice top-3 and that Dawid Malan will only be tried for the top-order position.

Malan knows the challenges that lie in front of him but he is confident of the fact that if he continues to perform in the manner that he has thus far, it will be difficult for England to look past him when it comes to selecting the starting XI for the T20 World Cup in India next year.

“We all know how good the players are that hold those positions. Their records over the last four or five years have been fantastic. For anyone to break-in, you have to be extremely consistent and win games of cricket for England. If I keep scoring runs at the rate I’m scoring at hopefully it will make it hard for them to ignore what I’m doing and I can somehow find a way into that starting XI.” Dawid Malan added.
