Delhi Capitals flexed their muscles on Friday to not only snap their three-match defeat streak against former champions, Chennai Super Kings but also pick up their second successive win of the tournament, something no team has done thus far in Dream11 IPL 2020.

The win was set-up by the opening stand between Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan, paving way for DC to eventually post a match-winning total of 3-175. Prithvi Shaw was the pick of the Capitals batsman. Shaw displayed his full range of strokes, showcasing just why he is rated so highly in the Indian cricketing circle.

Shaw scored a whirlwind 43-ball 64 and it was his panache at the top of the order that really set the platform for his side. Shaw, during a post-match interview, revealed that his plan was to play his natural game and play the strokes along the ground as he aimed to pierce the gaps over employing high-risk shots.

“My plan was to play my natural game but I was looking to play shots along the ground, last game we saw there were some silly mistakes and it was not working for me or the team. I just thought I would play along the ground,” Shaw told Iyer in a video posted in IPLT20.com.

“CSK has some good pace bowlers, I was able to time the ball and get some gaps. As the spinners came on, even if are 40/0, it doesn’t matter, I knew me and Shikhar Dhawan could pace our innings after the powerplay,” he added.

Shreyas Iyer, Delhi Capitals skipper, expressed his excitement after having notched up consecutive wins in the tournament. The young captain, however, added that the team needs to capitalize on the momentum they have gained from the last two wins. He further reckoned that the more games they win, the easier it will get for them in the IPL.

“As a captain, it’s a nice feeling, when you start by winning your first two matches, it helps in giving you confidence and now we need to capitalise on the momentum, as a team, we have been doing fantastic off late. The more matches we win, the easier it will be for us in this year’s IPL,” said Iyer.

The Capitals defended their total of 176 with aplomb thanks to an all-round bowling performance and some pretty ordinary batting by CSK as the former eventually sealed a 44-run-win.

Delhi Capitals will now face SunRisers Hyderabad in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday [September 29].
