England opener Dom Sibley was critcised for his slow scoring rate against the West Indies at Old Trafford. Dom Sibley notched up his century in 312-ball, which one of the slowest in the history of Test cricket. Following his knock social media was divided as Sibley drew plenty of flak and appreciation for his patient innings.

Sibley has no artisty, he is neither reckless. In fact, he builds up his innings slowly and is a master of leaving the ball. Former England captain Michael Vaughan has come out in his support and said that Sibley is a perfect fit in the side. He values his wicket and England needed someone of his calibre.

“England is a funny team to follow because we criticise them when they play flamboyantly and there were so many on social media criticising the way that Dom Sibley was playing,” Vaughan was quoted as saying by ‘Wisden’ about Sibley, who played 372 deliveries in his 120-run knock.

“He is absolutely right for this England team. That is exactly what England have required for a long period of time. Someone that just wants to stay in, value their wicket, bat a period of time.”

The patience knock saw him hit his first boundary on the off side in the 91st ball that he faced. He notched up his half-century in 164 balls to put the West Indies bowlers on the backfoot.

Sibley is still in the initial days of his Test career but it looks like he has cemented his place in the top order.
