Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar recently found himself in the middle of a huge controversy for allegedly making an unsavoury comment against Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma during the clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab in Dubai.
Sunil Gavaskar made the comment when Kohli came out to bat. And while Kohli was out in the middle, the former cricketer-turned-commentator came up with a comment involving the RCB skipper’s actor wife Anushka. The comment was perhaps taken out of context as the fans slammed him and some of them even urged the BCCI to remove Gavaskar from the commentary panel.

“Inhone lockdown me toh bas Anushka ki gendon ki practice ki hai, (he has only faced Anushka’s bowling in lockdown),” Sunil Gavaskar said while referring to the viral video of the couple that had surfaced during the country’s coronavirus lockdown.
His choice of words was slammed nonetheless as fans were furious that Anushka Sharma’s name was being dragged in the game needlessly again. Things further escalated when Anushka took to Instagram to slam Sunil Gavaskar for his ‘distasteful’ comment and even asked him to explain his words.

‘Trolling the legend not in good taste’:
In the wake of the controversy, several former cricketers have thrown their support behind under-fire Sunil Gavaskar and his former teammate Kirti Azad did not waste much time in doing the same. As the batting legend was facing the heat on social media, Azad took to Twitter to tell Anushka she was taking the matter too far.

While he asked her to ‘relax and enjoy’, he also told her not to make the issue ‘feminist or personal’. Azad concluded by stating that Gavaskar had never hit anyone below the belt, tweeting:
“Trolling the legend #SunilGavaskar is not in good taste @AnushkaSharma You’re taking this too far. @imVkohli is adored by all. Relax and enjoy.
“Sunny bhai has never hit anyone below the belt. Don’t make it feminist or personal issue. It has been my honour to have played with him.”
