India’s talismanic fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been named in the 18-man squad for the five-match Test series against England. In fact, there were reports that Bumrah will miss the first three Test matches against England.
However, it is now reported that Bumrah will be available for selection in the second Test match scheduled at the Home of Cricket, Lord’s.
India’s linchpin had suffered an injury to his left thumb in the first Twenty20 International against Ireland. Thus, Bumrah had to miss out on the limited-overs leg against England.
India will look to turn the table in the Test series:
Bumrah had played his first Test series against South Africa at the beginning of this year. The right-arm bowler had impressed with his line and length in his maiden red-ball series.
In fact, India dearly missed Bumrah’s services in the white-ball series against England.
Furthermore, pace spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar had also missed the first two One-Dayers due to back issues.
However, India’s pack leader is reported to have aggravated his injury in the ODI decider. In fact, Bhuvneshwar is even not named in the 18-man squad of the Indian team.
However, Bhuvneshwar’s condition is expected to be assessed later. Therefore, the decision on his place in the Test squad will be taken later.
Rishabh Pant has been added to the Test squad as a backup gloveman.
Furthermore, Shardul Thakur has also received his call-up. Kuldeep Yadav, who had a dream run in the limited-overs leg is also included in the Test team. Karun Nair has also made the cut into the Test team.
India’s fast bowler Mohammed Shami has also returned to the Test squad after missing the day-night Afghanistan Test, as he had failed to clear the Yo-Yo Fitness test.
