After making his debut in T20I against Ireland at Dublin, Siddarth Kaul featured in the ODI series against England as well.
In the absence of injured Jasprit Bumrah, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar facing fitness issues, Siddarth Kaul made his ODI debut at Trent Bridge and went onto play at Lords as well.
Introduction.
Siddarth Kaul has played 52 first-class, 62 List A, and 85 T20s. Foremost to his successful hitch with the Colts, he made his first-class debut for Punjab.
Kaul was also the part of Indian Team who won the 2007-08 World Cup in Malaysia under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. He was the best bowler for Team India, as he ended up the tournament with ten wickets in five matches.
Obstacles on his way.
Unlike his skipper who went on to smash some records, Siddarth Kaul was unsuccessful to garner the attention of the selectors.
The pacer got strained at the domestic, but he worked hard and finally earned his place in the national team.
Remarks from Sunil Gavaskar.
The former skipper of Indian Cricket Team came in support of the speedster. Sunil Gavaskar feels Kaul may grab his place in Tests in times to come.
As India is gearing up for the Test series, Sunil Gavaskar believes Kaul has the potential to make it into the longer format.
Talking with the BBC, the former batting legend said,
“Siddarth has been around first-class cricket for quite a while but has had a long wait to for an India cap. If he continues to do well he could be close to a Test cap,” Gavaskar was quoted as saying to BBC Sport.
Turning point
In the IPL season 2018, Siddarth Kaul became the joint-highest wicket-taker levelling with Australian speedster, Andrew Tye. He took 21 wickets from 17 matches. Having such a massive year with Sunrisers Hyderabad, he couldn’t elude the eyes of the national selectors this time.
