ENG vs IND 2018: Twitter Reacts As England Thrash India To Seal Series In Southampton
England overcome a fighting stand between Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli to beat India by 60 runs in the fourth England Test to wrap up the series with a match remaining. India were all out for 184 in the last session of day four.
India began their chase of 245 in the worst possible manner. Stuart Broad castled KL Rahul for a duck to set the tone for the hosts . And even before the visitors could recover from the early setback, James Anderson struck twice to put England well on top. He first trapped Cheteshwar Pujara for five before accounting for Shikhar Dhawan to leave India reeling at 22 for 3.
However, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane’s century stand swung the momentum India’s way and put them well on top. But England restored parity when Moeen Ali dismissed Kohli at the stroke of tea to set up a frantic finish.
Moeen was causing problems aplenty for the Indian duo but they held on to negate his effect and revive India’s innings. Kohli and Rahane also rode their luck during their 101-run stand.
England reviewed for a leg-before appeal against Kohli off Moeen that was adjudged not out on field. But third umpire Joel Wilson controversially declared that there was an inside edge. Rahane was then given out leg before to Sam Curran, but a review showed the impact outside off.
But just after Kohli crossed his fifty-run mark and completed the century stand with Rahane, Moeen struck to bring back England in the game. As a result, India finished the second session on 126 for 4.
The game, however, turned soon in England’s favour after the break. Ben Stokes dismissed Hardik Pandya for a duck to leave India 5 down for 127. Rishabh Pant then tried to hit way out of the pressure situation. He smashed 2 fours and a six to run away to 18 off just 11 before being sent back by Moeen.
And the game all but finished for India when Moeen struck again to dismiss Rahane and reduce India to 153 for 7. Rahane scored 51 but got out at a wrong time. The tail-enders could not delay the inevitable for long as England bowled out India for 184 to win the game and the series.
Earlier in the day, India were set a target of 245 after England was bowled out for 271 early, having added just 11 runs to its overnight score.Mohammad Shami, who had the one ball to complete his over from last evening, made Stuart Broad edge one to Rishabh Pant behind the stumps.
For the second time, Shami was on a hat-trick,, but Sam Curran put him away. Curran, however, in the process of sneaking in a second run, was caught short of the crease after a brilliant throw from Ishant Sharma landed right above the stumps for the wicketkeeper. The run-out brought an end to a spirited fight from England’s lower-order and their innings on 271. Shami starred with the ball, picking up four.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the fourth England vs India Test:

Before his double-century at the Oval Test in 2016, Younis Khan sought help from Azharuddin. Time to return the favour to India?
Younis knows how to bat against Moeen Ali – 176 runs at an average of 88.00 and SR 87.12. #EngvInd

India played 8 Tests this year, so far. Only player to feature in all the 8 is Hardik Pandya. That's a serious backing a player can get, by Kohli's standards.

Young Pant living by the sword…and dying by it. Why play such high risk game with the target under 100?

Ben Stokes, a batting all-rounder who has not been in the best of touch with the bat since his return but still adding value to the side in almost every game he plays. Terrific cricketer, will end up as a ? all-rounder. #ENGvIND

Allowing for a slice of early luck against Moeen, superb half century by @imVkohli. He’s exhausting critics of superlatives this series!

Once upon a time India's No. 6 batsman was the legendary Laxman. Now, it is Hardik Pandya. This inglorious fall of the batting middle order is unacceptable. Bahut ho gaya nautanki!

The kind of Moeen Ali is defeating India single handley, India doesn't need Kohli, Rahane and all but some RSS guys in the team.

Both teams had shaky batting line-ups and nifty pace attacks.. The difference between the two teams is SAM CURRAN. Played two most crucial innings of the series at critical junctures and helped England set up targets over 200 runs. Most impactful player of the series #ENGvsIND

When odds are stacked so wildly against you in a forth innings chase of 200+, I wonder why more teams don't think of using a pinch hitter. We always knew 245 was beyond reach. Why die wondering?

Well played England on getting the team selection right. Curran and Moeen returning to the team was the difference between this Test and the last.

Seriously.. some people were buoyed by Kohli-Rahane partnership and claiming India is on top. It was a matter of just one wicket, and Kohli is not an infallible superman. Was bound to make mistake sooner or later. Individual brilliance can win a match, not series #ENGvsIND

If Kohli/Rahane ask for drink and 'mistakenly' spill 2-3 litres of water on that dusty rough, will that be helpful? I mean illegal? #ENGvIND

Virat Kohli is now the sixth visiting captain and the first Asian captain to register 500 or more runs in a Test series in England.#EngvInd
