Virat Kohli, on Sunday, became the first Indian captain to score 4000 Test runs during his 58-run knock in the fourth England vs India Test.

Unlike most of his teammates as well as England batsmen, Kohli has been in stunning form in the series. His performance in the ongoing series has helped him bury the nightmare tour of 2014 where he scored only 134 runs in 10 innings.

He began the series with a splendid knock of 151 and went on to score 51 in the second innings to score a collective 200 runs at Edgbaston. He fell cheaply in both the innings at Lord’s but bounced back in style at Trent Bridge, scoring 200 runs again. In the first innings, the India star slammed 97 before scoring 103 in the second essay. The knock helped his side win the game by 203 runs.

And Kohli further enhanced his reputation with a gutsy knock on Sunday.  Kohli came to the crease when India were in a spot of bother, reeling at 17 for 2. They soon found themselves three down for just 22 while chasing 245 to level the series.

However, Kohli in the company of his deputy Ajinkya Rahane steadied the ship and batted India to a position of strength. He added 101 runs with Rahane before being dismissed by Moeen Ali for 58. But Kohli’s fighting knock once again went in vain as India suffered yet another collapse to be all out for 184 thus losing the game as well the series with a match remaining.

But Kohli, nonetheless, managed to reach yet another milestone. He became the first Indian to score 4,000 runs in Tests as captain. The right-hander reached the mark with a flick to the fine-leg boundary off Ben Stokes.

Kohli’s record as captain has been phenomenal as he has scored 16 hundreds and 9 fifties with a best of 243 since taking charge.
