Virat Kohli, on Saturday, became the Indian batsmen with ‘Most 200-Plus Runs’ scored in a Test after his exploits in the England vs India first Test at Edgbaston.

The India skipper made up for his horror show in England four years ago with a superb performance in the series-opener. He had scored just 134 runs in 10 innings during the last tour. The English bowlers had constantly troubled him by bowling just outside the off-stump.

Not surprisingly, the cricket world was eager to see how the India skipper would fare in his latest outing in England. And Kohli went on to show that the last tour was just an one-off as he scored a brilliant 149 to bail India out of trouble. India were 100 for 5 and were looking set to concede a massive lead to the hosts. However, Kohli’s century helped India post 274 in reply to England’s 287.

Kohli once again top-scored for his side in the second innings, scoring a fighting 51. But lack of support from other end once again saw his heroic effort going in vain. The likes of Murali Vijay, KL Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane all failed to fire as England won the low-scoring game by 31 runs. India were all out for 162 while chasing 194.

Kohli’s aggregate of 200 runs in this game is also the second most by any Indian captain in Tests in England. The list is led by MAK Pataudi who had scored 212 (64 & 148) in the Leeds Test in 1967.

The defeat would be a hard pill to swallow for Kohli. Well, the India skipper has nonetheless, managed to enter the record books after scoring exactly 200 runs in the game. He has now gone past Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid to become the Indian with most 200-plus runs in a game. Kohli has now achieved the feat 11 times, one more than Tendulkar and Dravid.

Virender Sehwag (9), Sunil Gavaskar (6) and VVS Laxman are third, fourth and fifth in the list respectively.
