India skipper Virat Kohli was given a pleasant surprise by the hotel staff when he returned to his room after the second day’s play of fourth England vs India Test.

Kohli crossed 6000 runs in Tests on day of the ongoing Test at Southampton.  The 29-year-old reached the milestone with a boundary towards third-man in the first session after the visitors lost both their openers in quick succession in reply to England’s 246.

Kohli is now the second-fastest Indian to score 6,000 Test runs. He achieved the feat in his 119th innings. The all time list is led by Sunil Gavaskar who achieved the feat in 117 innings. The Indian captain also is only the 10th Indian batsman and overall the 66th Test batsman to achieve the landmark.

Kohli has been in sensational form in this series, burying the nightmare tour of 2014 where he scored only 134 runs in 10 innings. In a series where not many batsmen have managed to leave their mark, Kohli has looked class apart. He has already scored two centuries and one fifty.

The right-hander, meanwhile, could not score big to make his day special. He was out for 46. However, he was in for a pleasant surprise when he went to his hotel after the day’s play. The hotel staff managed to make Kohli’s day special with a special gesture.

The hotel presented him with a tray with 6000 written on it and decorated with food items. Pleased by it, Kohli took to Instagram to share the photo and praised the staff’s ‘sweet gesture’, writing:

“What a sweet gesture by the staff at the Harbour Hotel. Great hospitality.?”

Coming to the game, India rode on Cheteshwar Pujara’s stunning unbeaten century to recover from 195 from 8 and post 273, thus taking a lead of 27. In reply, England finished the day on 6 for no loss.

Virat Kohli & Co. trail the ongoing series 2-1.
