Team India lost their third wicket in the form of Cheteshwar Pujara in the second day of the second Test against England at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Meanwhile, India were put to bat first after England skipper Joe Root won the toss in overcast conditions. Both the sides made two changes while going into the game. India brought in Cheteshwar Pujara and Kuldeep Yadav while the 20-year-old Ollie Pope made his debut for England.

However, the morning session looked grim for India as did the weather. India lost two wickets in the opening session as the rain stopped the game time abruptly. James Anderson was the star of the morning bagging two crucial wickets in the short six overs of play.

Anderson removed Murali Vijay first with a jaffer of a delivery squaring off the Indian opener. The good length delivery cut Vijay into two halves before castling his timber. It was not long before KL Rahul got a faint edge into the safe hands of Jonny Bairstow. Rahul looked uncomfortably right from the start only to throw his wicket increasing trouble for India.

The umpires called for an early lunch as rain interrupted the game time yet another time.

An unfortunate runout for Cheteshwar Pujara

Although the rain stopped for a while but India’s worries didn’t look to end. They lost their premier Test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara from a careless mistake by India skipper Virat Kohli.

It was a complete waste of wicket as Kohli started his sprint before turning his back to Pujara. The no three batsmen defended with soft hands, in front of point, before setting off. Kohli did too and then turned his back on the helpless Pujara. It was an easy job for England debutant Ollie Pop to clip of the bells.

Unfortunately for Pujara, he turns back to hut giving Kohli a stern look. Cheteshwar Pujara is the batsmen with the most number of runouts (seven) since his debut. Moreover, he was also involved in eight runouts among the last 13. The onus is now Kohli to lead India again with the bat.

Meanwhile, once again it started pouring down heavily as the covers come back to the field.
