ENG vs PAK 2018: England Call-Up Sam Curran as Cover for Injured Ben Stokes
Sam Curran has earned his maiden call-up to the England squad after being named in the side for the upcoming Leeds Test, as a cover for injured Ben Stokes. The ace all-rounder Stokes is suffering from a tight left hamstring.
Stokes suffered the injury while fielding during a training session on Wednesday (May 30).
As a result, he did not bowl after that. According to reports in English media, the 27-year old has not yet undergone a scan on the injury which will be assessed by the England medical staff on Thursday. There is also a possibility that Stokes could play as a specialist batsman.
Meanwhile, Curran will now no longer a part of the game between Windies and ICC World XI because of the call.
The pacer was named in the ICC World XI side for the exhibition game set to be played on Thursday at the iconic Lords.
Curran will now train at Emerald Headingley on Thursday ahead of the second Test with Pakistan.
The 19-year old has been impressive in the ongoing County season and is the leading wicket-taker for his side. He has picked up 18 wickets in four games at an average of 19.55.
One of his best performances this season came in the win over Yorkshire where he picked up match-winning haul of ten for 101.
England in danger of losing the series:
Meanwhile, England will have to win the game at any cost to avoid a series defeat at home.
The hosts are trailing the two-match series after losing the opener by nine wickets at Lord’s. Pakistan had thoroughly dominated the contest to start the series on a high.
In the second innings, the visitors had only 65 runs to chase which they did with utmost ease.
