England was supposed to have another blockbuster home season this year with International fixtures against West Indies, Pakistan, Ireland, and Australia, followed by the launch of their marquee domestic tournament ‘The Hundred’ beside the T20 Blast and County Championship. But the onslaught of the global pandemic that is the coronavirus [COVID-19] has wreaked havoc on the Future Tour Programme [FTP].

The latest series to be put on the backburner is the series of white-ball internationals between arch-rivals England and Australia. England was supposed to host Australia for three One-day Internationals followed by as many T20Is between July 03-16. But the rubber has now been postponed till September.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, the England and Wales Cricket Board [ECB] wants to stage the blockbuster series in front of packed stadiums rather than playing it behind closed doors and have put forward new dates to their Australian counterparts.

“ECB has put forward new dates to Cricket Australia in a bid to be able to stage those six matches in front of crowds” the report stated as quoted by Hindustan Times.

According to the report, both ECB and Cricket Australia [CA] are in agreement with the change in dates as both the boards want the series to take place in front of packed stands.

The onslaught of the global pandemic that is the coronavirus has wreaked havoc on the entire world. So far, as many as 2.4 million people have been infected by the virus while around 1.7 lakh individuals have lost their lives.

Cricket has taken a huge hit with the entire world under a lockdown. Almost every series and the tournament has been canceled and with the Future Tour Programme [FTP] in a mess, the International Cricket Council [ICC] will be holding a meeting via video conference on April 23 where the major points of discussion will be a rescheduling of the postponed series, a comprehensive review of the FTP up until 2023 as well as ICC Test Championship and Cricket World Cup Super League.

Meanwhile, professional cricket activities in England remain suspended till May 28th due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
