It was a spectacular display of batsmanship by Virat Kohli which saw him smash score sensational 149 in the Edgbaston Test against England and, India legend Sachin Tendulkar was left in awe of it.

It was on the back of Virat Kohli’s performances in the opening Test that India managed to claw their way back into the match. They were reduced to 100/5 at one point and could have lost the wickets of Kohli, and Hardik Pandya had England taken the catch of both the players in consecutive deliveries. However, things shaped out differently for team India.

Virat Kohli was the star for India in the opening Test

Despite Kohli scoring 200 runs in the match, India fell 31 runs short of the eventual target of 193 runs in the 2nd innings. Virat led from the front, as the other batters were not able to perform even half of what Kohli did.

The defeat would have hurt the India captain. India would now hope to put a better show against England in the second Test match at Lord’s, starting August 9th.

“Virat has done remarkably well. He has got the right attitude, right preparations, the right approach and that is how it should. I am sure that he believes in leading by example. I think he has done that and I am sure he will continue doing that,” Tendulkar was quoted as saying during an interview with the Sky Sports.

Sachin Tendulkar says good days will come for other batters

When asked whether the team has been overly reliant on Kohli, Tendulkar said good days would come for the other batsmen as well.

“I am sure that the other batters will come into play. They will also have their good days. Of course in a team sport, there are good day and bad days for you. Hopefully, it will be good days for them,” Tendulkar added during the interview.

Virat Kohli had a horrendous season in England back in 2014. He had scored only 134 runs in ten innings and had come under severe scrutiny. The now India captain went to his idol Sachin Tendulkar and sought help. Tendulkar agreed he did a chat with Kohli sometime before.

“We sat together some time ago, and we have discussed few things. But I always believe in confidentiality and you know we have just shared. Just like I would share with any other cricketer. I spend some time with Virat,” he added.

Meanwhile, he also spoke on the launch of his latest global cricket academy. It helps young budding cricketers in Lancashire to get tips and learn the game from arguably the greatest batsman of all time.
