The England Cricket Board (ECB) has named the squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Ireland, set to get underway on the 30th of July. The 14-man party sees the likes of Jofra Archer, Joe Root, Mark Wood Chris Woakes Jos Buttler, and Ben Stokes getting rested due to their involvement in the ongoing Test series against the West Indies.

On the other hand, it witnesses the return of left-arm pacer Reece Topley, keeper-batsman Sam Billings, spin-bowler Liam Dawson, and bowling all-rounder David Willey.

The uncapped trio of Richard Gleeson, Liam Livingstone, and Lewis Gregory will remain with the 14-man squad as reserves while Phil Salt, who hammered a 58-ball hundred for the Lions against Ireland in the warm-up match did not receive consideration. Veteran all-rounder Joe Denly, who faced the axe from the third Test against the West Indies makes it to the squad.

Apart from that, Moeen Ali will serve as a deputy to captain Eoin Morgan while World Cup winners Jonny Bairstow, Tom Curran, Liam Dawson, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, and James Vince all return to the mix. Notably, Reece Topley could be in line for his first England cap since 2016.

He was part of the World T20 squad in 2016 when England ended up as the runners-up. However, he has struggled with back problems and underwent surgery for the same in 2018. Nevertheless, Topley was the leading wicket-taker for Sussex in the previous season of the Vitality Blast before moving to Surrey for the winter.

England’s initial 24-man party have been training at the Ageas Bowl since the 16th of July in the bio-security bubble having played two intra-squad matches before the Lions game against the Irishmen. Leg-spinner Matthew Parkinson was ruled out of that group after an ankle injury while pacer Chris Jordan missed being on the original squad after undergoing surgery for his elbow injury.
