Former World-Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev has lashed out at Team India after they lost the five-match Test series against England with a match still left in London. Visitors currently trail the series 3-1. Veteran Kapil said that overdependence on skipper Virat Kohli was the biggest reason for their downfall in the series.

Kohli highlighted the importance of Kohli who is currently the leading run-getter in the series among both teams. He has scored 544 runs so far, and it is the overreliance on Kohli which has led to yet another series loss in overseas conditions for India.

“Indian team has been committing too many mistakes. India was better on paper, but England outclassed us. We just can’t always depend on one or two players,” Kapil was quoted as saying by the media persons on the sidelines of an army event.

The visitors lost the fourth Test at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton by 60 runs despite dominating the game for the major portion.

Kapil Dev says India haven’t learnt from their mistakes:

The final Test will be played at the Kennington Oval. However, it will be a dead rubber which will give both teams an opportunity to try out their bench strength.

And if reports are to be believed Prithvi Shaw is all set to make his Test debut in London.

Meanwhile, Kapil further stated that Indian team has not learnt from their mistakes and have given repeated opportunities to their opponents to make a comeback.

“Indian team needs to learn from its mistakes. The only way you can become a better team is when you don’t repeat your mistake or repeat the mistakes more often. In this series, India was on in a good position to finish the match, but they had given England many chances to bounce back,” he added.

“I am concerned about the system in Indian cricket and not bothered about what others are doing right or wrong. We just have to do things right. I don’t believe that Team India should depend on only one player. Whenever you are going to win a series or a tournament. India should play collectively, and that is not happening,” he added.

Meanwhile, for India Kapil Dev didn’t give his take on whom Virat Kohli should pick for the fifth and the final Test at the Oval against England.

“That’s selectors job. Whatever is picked, the team needs to deliver the result,” he signed off.
