Team India skipper, Virat Kohli entered the elite list of Indian batsmen who have scored more than 6000 runs in Test cricket. He reached the landmark during India’s first innings against England at Southampton.

Virat Kohli Enters an Elite List

Kohli is currently batting, as India hopes to get a substantial lead after England posted a competitive 246 in their 1st innings at Southampton. He will again look to stamp his authority on the English bowlers, as he has done during the majority of this ongoing series.

However, Virat Kohli also became the 2nd quickest Indian to reach the feat. Sunil Gavaskar heads the list, as he took only 117 innings to achieve it. Kohli completed the landmark in his 120th innings. Third on the list is Sachin Tendulkar who took 120 innings while Virender Sehwag occupies the fourth position, taking 121 innings. Rahul Dravid took 125 innings while Mohammad Azharuddin took 143 innings.

The all-time record is held by Sir Don Bradman who achieved the feat in only 69 innings. Gary Sobers and Steven Smith took 111 innings, while Wally Hammond and Len Hutton took 114 and 116 innings, respectively.

There is no doubt about the fact that Kohli has been in the form of his life. He has been scoring heaps of runs in all three formats of the game.

Virat Kohli is having a great time in England

The India captain had a horrendous tour to England in 2014 where he scored only 134 runs in ten innings. However, Virat has rectified it big time and is currently the leading run-scorer in the series among both the teams by a country mile.

He had already smashed a couple of half-centuries and a couple of centuries and had looked in complete control of proceedings on most occasions.

He has been troubled on a few occasions by full-length deliveries outside the off stump and has also been helped by the butter-fingered English fielders. However, there is no denying the fact that he has taken batting to a whole new level and looks set to break all cricketing records until he calls it quits from international cricket.
