5. Zaheer Khan’s heroics seals it for India in 2007 at Nottingham:
It was a game which was played under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid. Moreover, the tour has been a successful one as India went back home with a series victory.
Initially, England was put into bat first by India. Surprisingly, none of the English batsmen crossed 50-run mark in the innings with the best coming from Cook of 43. The southpaw Zaheer Khan rattled four wickets while Anil Kumble grabbed three wickets to his name.
In reply, Indian batsmen started the things well with five batsmen of India crossing 50-run mark. They ended up registering 481 runs to their name. In response, Michale Vaughan scored a scintillating knock of 124 to his name.
However, it was Zaheer Khan again who rattled the stumps of England. He bagged a five-wicket haul to his name – to bundle out England for 355 runs. Chasing 73 runs, India finished the game with seven wickets to spare.
4. BS Chandrasekhar’s 6-for scrips 140-run victory in 1977 at Bangalore:
It was a game best remembered for Chandrasekhar’s most exceptional performances for India. His incredible bowling display helped India to outclass the giants of the game, England during those days.
Initially, it was Syed Kirmani and Amarnath who stroked fine fifties to push India to a total of 253 runs on the board. In reply to the tally, England batsmen have no clue for Chandrasekhar’s brilliance with the ball.
He bagged as many as six wickets leaving England 58 runs behind. This time it was Gavaskar and Gundappa Vishwanath who helped India to score 259 on the board thus asking over 300 runs to chase for England.
In reply to the chase, it was again Chandrasekhar, who troubled the Englishmen. But, Bishansingh Bedi weaved magic to finish with a six-wicket haul. It was a memorable Test win for India in England that saw excellent performances from Indian bowlers.
3. Roger Binny’s 5-for and Maninder’s 4-for helped India win by a margin of 279 runs at Leeds:
Touring to England and winning a game there has always been a massive achievement. Meanwhile, India did magic when they toured England in 1986. The heroics by Dilip Vengsarkar on a real bowling pitch scripted one of the memorable victories for India.
However, in the first innings of the game, it was Vengsarkar’s solitary fifty and the collective 30’s from the other batsmen helped India score 272 on the board. In reply, Roger Binny bowled splendidly to crush England to 102 runs.
Taking the 170-run lead, it was again Vengsarkar, who smashed a brilliant hundred to push India to 237 runs on the board. Chasing 407 runs, England were bowled out to 128 runs.
Maninder Singh was the pick of bowlers for India with four wickets while Roger Binny and Kapi Dev picked a couple each. All in all, it was the highest margin victory for India regarding runs and something which Vengsarkar cherishes for a lifetime.
2. Ishant Sharma’s magical seven wickets and Bhuvneshwar’s 6-for in the first innings helped India script history at Lords:
It was a game which showed India’s capability of dealing with the various circumstances. Additionally. it is also the game which saw the brilliance of Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma coupled with Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s leadership.
Initially, England asked India to bat on a bowling-friendly wicket. Exposing India’s inability to bat on green tops, James Anderson and Broad rattled Indian batting line-up. However, Ajinkya Rahane has the other ideas in mind who smashed a scintillating century.
The century followed by a magical six-wicket spell from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Then came Murali Vijay’s 95 alongside Jadeja’s 68 to hand India a solid 342 on the board.
Chasing 338 runs, it was all about Ishant Sharma’s magical bouncing spell. He used the bouncer option to perfection who bagged a lovely 7-wicket haul to script historic game for India.
1. Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah delivered magical performances at Trentbridge (2018):
Furthermore, despite coming into Trent Bridge on the back of a shameful performance at Lord’s, India outclassed England by 203 runs in the third Test match and made it 1-2 in the five-match Test series.
The all-around show by Hardik Pandya and the solid performances by Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah handed India a memorable victory in Nottingham.
Virat Kohli and the vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane took back the attack to England. Moreover, they both smashed the ball beautifully to register an excellent 159-run partnership between them. Also, a maiden five-wicket haul followed it by Hardik Pandya’s brilliance with the willow.
The day four has seen the pure form of Test cricket. Ishant Sharma’s two wickets and Bumrah, Shami’s one wicket each left England reeling on 62 for four. But then came the majestic knock by Jos Buttler – to keep Indians away from the victory for quite a time.
However, in the England Vs India contest, Bumrah rattled hosts with the second new ball to give a solid Test win to visitors.
