Rishabh Pant has caught all the eyeballs with his impressive debut at Trentbridge against England. Facing just the second delivery, he smashed a straight six over Adil Rashid to get off the mark in his Test career. Meanwhile, the former India wicketkeeper, Farokh Engineer is happy for the Delhi-lad Rishabh Pant getting through the ranks.

Farokh Engineer mentioned Rishabh Pant could be the player India is looking for and added the southpaw should make some improvements with his gloves. He furtherly spoke about Pant’s confidence with his willow as well.

Rishabh Pant has guts and confidence – Farokh Engineer

The former keeper went on to say the Delhi lad has got the required potential to be the best for India. But, he noticed a couple of mistakes in Rishabh Pant’s glovework which he wants him to sort it out quickly. Meanwhile, Farokh loved the energy of Rishabh with the bat.

Recalling his days, Engineer added he started his career with three boundaries. But, he admitted those strokes were out of nervousness something which Rishabh Pant never showed with his willow while batting at Trentbridge.

“I’m very impressed, he has tremendous reflexes,” he said on Sunday to Hindustan Times. “I love to see youngsters make a mark. He didn’t show any nerves and hit the second ball for a six. My first three balls I faced in Test cricket, I hit them for fours, but that was out of sheer nervousness.”

“Rishabh has guts and confidence. Some nerves are bound to happen being his debut. He wanted to get off the mark quickly and that is the shot he plays. But he was bubbling,” Engineer added.

If I meet Rishabh Pant, I will tell him those mistakes – Farokh Engineer

Farokh quoted Rishabh is quick on his toes although the ball is still travelling to the batsman. He felt that Pant needs to adjust with the ball and get those half chances to turn in favour of the Indian team. Farokh wants to take those mistakes to Rishabh Pant if he gets time to meet him.

“He gets up too soon. One must rise with the ball. He also positioned himself a bit too back, the slip cordon also. Jasprit Bumrah once called him forward. If I meet him, I will tell him. A wicket-keeper should stay as low as possible to move quickly and even turn half-chances into catches,” Rishabh Pant inferred.

All in all, the former wicketkeeper is quite impressed with the debut game of Delhi lad. Hopefully, Rishabh Pant continues his great form to come good for India in two Tests against England.
