Former India cricketer turned commentator, Sanjay Manjrekar attracted a lot of criticism for his recent comments on Cheteshwar Pujara on day two of the fourth Test against England at Southampton.

Meanwhile, Pujara was the mainstay during India’s reply and batted brilliantly to bring his first century in England. He remained unbeaten on 132 runs, as India took a 27-run lead in the first essay. England fought their way back banking on Moeen Ali’s five-wicket haul to rattle the Indian middle-order earlier.

However, it was Stuart Broad, who tasted early success removing both the Indian openers after a cautious start. Virat Kohli then partnered Pujara to revive the innings adding 92 runs either side of the lunch. The downside for India started when Kohli edged one off Sam Curran to Alastair Cook at first slip at Southampton.

Pujara, meanwhile, stood tall, as India lost wickets from the other end. He battled it out in the middle against some gritty bowling effort by the England seamers. Furthermore, Cheteshwar Pujara stitched two crucial partnership with the tailenders to take India over England’s first innings score.

He paired with Ishant Sharma to add 32 runs before adding another 46 runs with Jasprit Bumrah. India was reeling at 227 for nine, still 19 runs behind India’s modest total of 246. Pujara, who played a slow inning for much of the day, started to break free capitalising on every opportunity to score runs.

The Saurashtra-born cricketer, however, brought his debut hundred in England hitting Moeen Ali over his head to extend the lead for his side as well.

Any kid thinking I don’t have enough talent to make it, look at Pujara, that’s your role model right there,” Manjrekar wrote.

Meanwhile, this didn’t go well the team India fans, who lashed out at him on Twitter.
