Surprisingly, after the series loss in England, the head coach of India, Ravi Shastri tried to defend the team. While doing so, he compared the present side to the old Indian squads and stated the current Indian team got the best run in Test format than any other. Meanwhile, it didn’t serve well for Sunil Gavaskar.

The classy right-handed batsman reminded Ravi Shastri that many teams travelled overseas and returned with the victory. Sunil Gavaskar admitted the only case when they failed to win against Sri Lanka at their home.

The stylish stroke-maker during his times reminded the current head coach of the successful tours for Indian under various skippers.

Sunil Gavaskar added they won games against the Windies, England and Australians when their team was at a peak.

Further, Sunil Gavaskar highlighted Rahul Dravid’s captaincy as well. Under him, India won the Test series against South Africa for the first time in their homeland. Then, he led India to success in England as well.

“All I can say is that no Indian team has won in Sri Lanka for a long time. But we have won in the West Indies, in England, Test matches in Australia and South Africa. What I can say is that teams in the 1980s have won in England and West Indies,” Gavaskar told ‘India Today’ on Thursday.

”Rahul Dravid also won series in West Indies in 2005, in England in 2007 and captained when India beat South Africa for the first time (in South Africa). Dravid gets very little credit for his leadership and his team’s wins. There have been teams who have won overseas,” he added to his lines.

However, it would be interesting to see how Ravi Shastri responds to the retort given by Sunil Gavaskar. Meanwhile, India gets prepared for the final Test at Oval, London and would like to end the tour on a winning note.
