Trevor Bayliss, who is holding the assignment of coaching to England cricket team feels India is dependent on skipper Virat Kohli. Despite the fact, Kohli amassed 200 runs in Edgbaston Test, India failed miserably. Three Lions registered a comprehensive 31-run victory over visitors during England vs India 2018 series opener.

Apart from Kohli, Indian Team could garner only 214 runs in both the innings. India was bowled out on 274 in the first innings. In the second innings, India while chasing a total of 193 was bundled on just 162.

The batting mainstay Kohli registered his maiden ton on English soil. He slammed his 22nd ton and 15th one as a skipper. He amassed most runs in the Birmingham Test from either side.

In the first outing, he scored magnificent 149 while as he scored flawless 51 in the second innings.

So much so, Kohli leapfrogged former Australian Steven Smith as he gathered 31 points in the recently-concluded Test match. With this, he attained the top spot in ICC Test rankings.

While talking with the Cricbuzz, The England coach, Trevor Bayliss said,

“If he’s not the best batter, he’s very close to it. The way he played the first and second innings was high-class stuff,”

“If we can put pressure on the other batters in the team, that’s going to add to the pressure on him,” he added.

England Vs India 2018: The knock of Virat Kohli and rest of batsmen

The superb knock of Kohli cannot be measured from the Indian perspective.

Besides scoring 48 per cent of Indian runs, he also scored 22 per cent of the runs scored from either side. Therefore, it further determines the quality of Kohli on a bowling paradise.

From the England side, only three batsmen could cross the barrier of the thirty-run mark from top six batsmen.

Things were no different in the second innings as the England batsmen were helpless before the Indian bowling attack.

“We’re very much in the hunt here. When the ball’s moving, we’ve shown that a few of their guys do struggle against the moving ball. I’m sure that they’ll be going away working out how they can play it as we’re going to be working on how to play the off-spin,” Bayliss remarked.
