Of late, especially after donning analysts hat, the southpaw in the form of Gautam Gambhir and Zaheer Khan have expressed their views on the upcoming Test five-match Test series. In the latest interview, they predicted the series scoreline of the impending series.
The stylish veteran opening batsman for India Gambhir played a safe game while naming the winner of the series. Meanwhile, the knuckle-ball specialist, Zaheer came up with a surprising prediction.
England has got an edge with their balance: Gambhir
The Delhi batsman feels that the hosts, England have the edge to come out victorious against the top-ranked Test team India. He added that England has pace spearhead James Anderson, who always goes hard at India despite age chasing him.
The Delhi-based aggressive batsman Gambhir went on say that the in-form Jos Buttler and the all-rounder Ben Stokes will give a great balance to the side.
All in all, Gambhir feels England has more opportunities to rely upon with their resources. He also mentioned veteran opener Alastair Cook as a big threat.
”I feel that England has an edge. Because they have got James Anderson and Stuart Broad. I always believe Anderson has a part against India. If you look at history, Anderson will always go at India. England always goes hard at India and I feel they have an edge. But, India got the variety to do it this time. They have got the bowling to pick 20 wickets for the team,” Gambhir said while speaking to Cricbuzz.
”They have got the experienced bowling attack plus the batting depth as well. They got Ben Stokes who gives balance. You can’t count Alastair Cook out. Joe Root has class and Buttler as well. So overall, I think England looks more balanced and has an edge,” he added.
I predict it would be 1-1: Zaheer Khan
The former Indian pacer Zaheer surprisingly opts for a draw. He feels that England would play a safe game by handing flat pitches and then, go hard against India at late half of the series.
”It would be interesting to see what kind of pitches the game will be played on. If the wicket is batting friendly, India will have a great chance and stay in the fight. I still feel going at Oval, 1-1 is what I am expecting. England would start cautiously. There will be flat tracks to play on. We might not get results. So, 1-1 is all I am expecting,” Zaheer opined.
However, both the former stalwarts Gautam Gambhir and Zaheer Khan have there valid reasons for their predictions. It would be interesting to see how the things pan out in the upcoming series between England and India.
The first Test will commence from August 1st at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
