It has been a terrific match for Team India as they head towards a famous victory in the 3rd Test against England in Nottingham. After losing the first Tests, not many would have predicted such a dominating performance from the visiting team. For the first time in the series, India batted very well and hence could push for a victory.
After being put into bat, India posted a challenging 329 on the board courtesy impressive knocks from the blade of Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane. The duo shared a brilliant 159 runs partnership which eventually helped them go past the 320 mark. However, the main difference was made by Hardik Pandya and the fielders.
Hardik was quite superb and ended up bagging his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket. He bowled in the perfect areas and induced edges from the English batters. KL Rahul who was stationed in the slip cordon took 3 brilliant catches while Rishabh Pant became the first ever Indian wicket-keeper to take 5 catches on his Test debut.
India eventually bowled out England for just 161 runs inside 39 overs. Courtesy anther sublime century by Virat Kohli and a sensible knock from Cheteshwar Pujara, India managed to score 352/7 before declaring. The target of 521 was always going to be a massive ask for the hosts. Yet again KL Rahul was quite brilliant in the slip cordon.
He took 4 brilliant catches to finish with a total of 7 catches in the match. He moved tto the 2nd position behind Ajinkya Rahane for most catches taken by an Indian fielder in Tests. Rahane with 8 catches against Sri Lanka in Galle back in 2015 holds the record. Yajuvindra Singh also took 7 catches during a Test against England back in 1977. 4th in the list is Eknath Solkar with 6 catches back in 1971 against Windies. Virender Sehwag with 6 catches against England in Leeds back in 2012 completes the list.
Meanwhile, it must also be noted that it is also the first time in the history of Test cricket that two players from the same team have taken 6 catches each in the team. KL Rahul and wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant have been quite brilliant behind the stumps. Pant also had a great match with the gloves bagging 7 catches in the match so far.
