England have asserted themselves into a real position of dominance at stumps on day 02 after they reduced to West Indies to 6-137 before bad light once again brought a pre-mature end to days play.

Earlier, West Indies, after a lackluster evening session yesterday, went bang bang in the opening session of day 02.

It all started with Shannon Gabriel knocking over Ollie Pope for his overnight scoreA of 91. Kemar Roach picked up from where he had left on day 01 as he dismissed Chris Woakes to become the 9th West Indian fast bowler and the first in 26 years to join the 200 Test wicket club.

Gabriel and Roach removed Jos Buttler [67] and Jofra Archer [3] quickly and all of a sudden, England found themselves reeling at 8-280.

Stuart Broad’s batting may have nosedived in the past six years but the left-hander showed glimpses of his pre-bouncer batting days on the first money. Broad launched a stunning counter-attack on the Windies bowlers to rack up a 41-ball 60- the fastest fifty by an England batsman by Ian Botham- that helped England get past the 350-run mark.

England were finally dismissed for 369, a total that they would have been very happy with, considering they were, at one stage, grappling at 8-280.

West Indies got off to the worst possible start to their innings as Stuart Broad induced an outside edge off Kraig Brathwaite’s bat on only his fourth delivery of the innings.

John Campbell played some gorgeous strokes in the post Lunch session. He rode his luck- he was dropped by Ben Stokes in the slips off James Anderson- but he looked the best of all West Indian batsmen on day 02.

Campbell and Hope added 43 runs for the second wicket but just as it looked like they were on course of building a big stand, Jofra Archer surprised the opener with rib-tickler, one he could only fend off to Rory Burns.

And, then at the stroke of Tea, James Anderson proceeded to square up Shai Hope [17] like only he can to induce an outside edge, one that was taken easily by Jos Buttler. Anderson picked up from where he had left in the afternoon session. This time he got the ball in off the seam against Shamarh Brooks, who could only manage just a faint inside-edge.

Jermaine Blackwood survived an LBW scare from James Anderson when he successfully challenged the on-field call, Roston Chase, however, wasn’t as lucky as Stuart Broad trapped him right in front with a nip-backer to leave the Windies five down.

Chris Woakes dismissed Jermaine Blackwood with a Jaffa to reduce the visitors further into their slump. Jason Holder [24*] played some enterprising strokes in his 46-ball 24 and he will hold the key for the West Indies on day 03.
