Eoin Morgan Reveals His Picks To Win Cricket World Cup 2019
Eoin Morgan feels India, Pakistan and England will be the favourites for the next year’s World Cup scheduled to be held in England.
The next year’s World Cup will kick start on May 30 with England taking on South Africa at The Oval in London in the tournament-opener. The competition will see the 10 best teams in the world go head to head in a round-robin format, resulting in a true world champion.
The cricketing world has already started speculating who can go all the way in the biggest tournament of the game. And Morgan has revealed his pick. In the launch event of the tournament on the iconic Brick Lane, Morgan revealed the teams he think can win the trophy. Surprisingly, he snubbed defending champions Australia.
“In last year’s Champions Trophy, Pakistan had a very strong and young team and was one of the best teams of the tournament. We have to consider both Pakistan and India as well as ourselves and continue to learn from our mistakes,” he said.
All the three teams had done brilliantly in last year’s ICC Champions Trophy held in England. While England had crashed out in the semifinals, Pakistan had defeated India in the final. Not much of the team compositions have changed for all the three teams and they can deliver the goods in England again next year.
India, currently the second best ODI team in the world, are one of the biggest contenders for the trophy. England have become a force to reckon with in the ODIs. Their attacking brand of game has made them one of the most feared teams in the world and the upcoming edition can well see them winning their first World Cup.
During the event, former South Africa pacer Allan Donald backed England to go the distance in the tournament.
“If ever they have a chance to win one, it’s definitely now,” Donald told Sky Sports.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s knack of being unpredictable also put them in contention to win the title. They had won the Champions Trophy despite being the lowest ranked team in the competition.
