Eoin Morgan is a hugely respected cricketer in England for his heroics on the field. He is the only skipper in the history of England cricket to lift the 50-over World Cup. Not only in ICC World Cup but also England reached the finals in the T20I World Cup in 2016 under his captaincy. All those incredible numbers might have prompted London Spirit to ask Eoin Morgan to be the leader of the pack.
It is an exciting opportunity – Eoin Morgan
Speaking of the appointment, Eoin Morgan stated that he is pretty excited to take the role for London Spirit. Further, Morgan added that he is always looking at ways to improve himself in the middle. He also feels that the new competition is the best way to take the game forward in the country. Morgan also praised the knowledge of Shane Warne, who will don the hat of the head coach for the London Spirits.
“As a player and a captain I am always looking for ways to improve, and it’s clear from speaking to Shane – who has an amazing cricket brain, about everything from tactics in this new competition to how to get the best from our squad – that this is an exciting opportunity to take cricket forward,” Morgan said in an official statement.
The Hundred competition, a new 100-ball format, will be launched next year and with the men’s and women’s competitions to run concurrently over five weeks. It will feature eight city-based clubs, from Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham, Birmingham, Cardiff, Southampton and two in London (Lord’s and the Oval).
Each bowler can deliver a maximum of 20 balls per game, and each bowling side gets a strategic timeout of upto two and a half minutes. Moreover, The Hundred will have a 25-ball powerplay start for each team. Two fielders will be allowed outside of the initial 30-yard circle during the powerplay.
