The pace with aggression, probably, the only name that could strike to any cricketing fan would be Dale Steyn. His pace with such controlled aggression and the clean action. He has always been the inspiration for young fast bowlers across the world. Despite the poor return back to Test cricket, skipper, Faf du Plessis is backing his premium fast bowler.

Of late, especially, after the multiple injuries, Steyn has lost a bit of venom in his bowling which has been an area of concern.

I know Dale is motivated and I expect him to come back: Faf du Plessis

Du Plessis explained that Steyn has done everything to get a wicket for South Africa. But, unfortunately, he couldn’t get any of them as there is no pace or reverse swing for the fast bowlers.

Du Plessis went on say that Steyn is motivated and optimistic about seeing him return well in the upcoming matches. He is expecting some fireworks from Dale Steyn when they play Pakistan.

“It was frustrating for Dale because he gives everything. You saw when he was running in, there was nothing happening for him, there was no reverse swing and no pace on the wicket. He kept trying,” Sports24 quoted du Plessis, as saying.

“I think the next time he has the red ball in hand there will be a little more assistance when we play against Pakistan. I know he is motivated. And I expect him to come back and put in the good performances,” du Plessis said.

Unfair to judge our seam bowlers on these conditions: Faf du Plessis

Du Plessis added that it is a bit unfair to judge the skills of his fast bowlers on those dusty bowls in Sri Lanka.

He went on to explain that there is no assistance for the fast bowlers on the track which has been the prime factor for the failure of their primary weapon.

”I think it will be unfair to judge our seam bowlers on these conditions. It was really tough for them, they tried hard but it was really tough to get something from the wicket. The wicket was quite dusty. Our pace factor that we had as our threat was not a weapon in these conditions,” he added.

However, as Faf du Plessis said, judging Proteas’ fast bowlers on the performance of their previous won’t be a fair enough. The very same attack showed their class when Australia and India toured their home in the recent past.
