MS Dhoni might be one of the most if not the most popular cricketer in India but the former India skipper has been facing the heat from the fans thanks to his ‘miserly’ donation to help the needy during these testing times of coronavirus pandemic. The daily wage workers have been hit hard by the government’s latest action to combat the pandemic in the country.

On Tuesday, PM Narendra Modi announced a complete 21-day lockdown across India due to understandable reasons. But the government as well as others have come forward to help the needy and MS Dhoni has joined the bandwagon too. The legendary batsman, who is one of the richest cricketers in the world, has donated Rs 1 lakh via crowdfunding website Ketto to the Mukul Madhav Foundation, public charitable trust in Pune.

Pune has been one of the worst-affected cities by the outbreak in India. So far more than 15 positive cases of the novel coronavirus have been reported in the city. MS Dhoni’s donation will be used to provide basic grocery essentials to the families of daily wage workers in the city.

However, a number of fans are not at all happy with MS Dhoni’s gesture because of the amount he has donated. As soon as the news of MS Dhoni’s donation became public, the fans came out in large numbers to criticise the legendary cricketer for his miserly attitude.

Meanwhile, all the major international and domestic fixtures are off as cricket boards around the globe have come forward to prioritise safety over the game.

Earlier this month, the BCCI called off the three-match ODI series against South Africa after initially deciding to hold the last two games behind closed doors. The BCCI have also suspended the IPL till April 15 and reports suggest that there is a big chance, the tournament might get cancelled altogether this year.

The likes of South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, England, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and other cricket countries have also called off their international and domestic fixtures.
