Hira Jairam has passed away.

One of the many reasons that the game of cricket is adored so much is because of the way it is played. No matter what the situation is, the players always make sure that they do not tarnish the image of the game. The game has traditionally been played in the right spirit and has deservedly earned the name ‘the gentlemen’s game’.

But every now and then, some incident occur that malign the image of this beautiful game. Well, one such incident recently took place in Bengaluru. In the unfortunate incident, a fight broke out during a local cricket match at Mahalakshmi Layout on Sunday (June 17). It led to the murder of a youth on Sunday evening. The incident took place at a ground on 5th Cross in JC Nagar, Kurubarahalli, west Bengaluru.

The deceased has been identified as Manikanta alias Dodda Katu. He was 22-year old and lived in Srirama Nagar in Mahalakshmi Layout. He  was facing several criminal cases in Mahalakshmi Layout police station.

As per reports, Police said preliminary probe revealed his rival team members had murdered him.

The clash between the two teams happened while they were playing cricket in the afternoon. Manikanta had assaulted some members in the ground. They left the spot, but ganged up to take revenge against him. At 6.30pm, they attacked Manikanta with cricket bats and machetes. Manikanta died on the spot.

The probe is still going on as the police said it would interrogate the team members to get to the root of the case.

“We’ll question all the team members to know what exactly happened during the match,” police said.
