Chennai Super Kings skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a huge icon in the country. Ever since the inception of IPL, he has played for the Chennai Super Kings.

It has become his adopted home and the people from Chennai love and adores him a lot. Hence, he is referred as Thala (leader) by the young generation in Tamil Nadu.

Dhoni might have earned the moniker in the recent years but the original Thala, Ajith Kumar got the title way back in 2001. It was bestowed upon him for his role in Dhenna. The film was written and directed by Murugadoss. Meanwhile, former Indian bowler, Shantakumaran Sreesanth feels there is only one ‘Thala’, and it is none other than Ajith.

“I always believe there is only one Thala. Not just in Chennai, but all over the world, there is only one Thala. I’m a huge fan of that Thala. I saw a lot of posters that said Dhoni is our Thala and similar things. But come on, everyone knows that there is only one Thala and it is our favourite Ajith Annan,” Sreesanth was quoted as saying by Behindwoods during an interaction.

However, there is no doubt about the fact Sreesanth respects Dhoni a lot. It was the fast bowler who took the infamous catch in the final of ICC World Twenty20 in 2007 off Joginder Sharma.

It was a huge catch in the context of India’s cricketing history. Dhoni was appointed the skipper of a young team who wasn’t given any chance ahead of the tournament, and he eventually led the team to the win in the end.

“Rest of them are at a bit lower level. We all respect Dhoni as the captain cool. I am honoured to have played under him,” he added.

Meanwhile, it must be noted that suspended cricketer, Sreesanth is a big fan of Tamil movies. He was banned for life by the BCCI after he was found guilty of spot-fixing during the 2013 IPL. Two other cricketers, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan also got banned with him.

Sreesanth who was part of India’s World Cup-winning squad in 2011, challenged the ban. It was later lifted by a single judge bench of Kerala High Court. However, it again got restored by a division bench of Kerala HC.

Meanwhile Ajith, the actor is now busy shooting for his upcoming movie Viswasam. He is currently in Hyderabad. Nayanthara will play the role of the female lead.
