In a tragic news, former Tamil Nadu Ranji cricketer U Prabhakar Rao passed away on Sunday aged 84. Rao was a fine cricketer but unfortunately missed out playing for the national team. In domestic circuit, he represented Tamil Nadu in 32 first-class games. In those 32 games, he picked up 84 wickets at an average of just over 25.

U Prabhakar Rao’s best figures with the ball were 7 for 28 while he picked up three five-wicket hauls during his first-class career. Following the end of his playing career, U Prabhakar Rao took to administration. He occupied various positions in Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA). U Prabhakar Rao held the posts of secretary, treasurer, vice president in his long tenure as administrator. He was also chairman of the State selection committee and also held the post of Director of TNCA Academy.

RI Palani, joint secretary of the TNCA, paid tribute to the great man and offered condolences on behalf of the cricket body. U Prabhakar Rao’s funeral will be held June 10. Rao leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter.

“He was one of the senior most and respected members of the TNCA. The TNCA recalls his exemplary service rendered to the association and to the game of cricket. The TNCA sends it deepest condolence to the family members of the departed soul,’’ said Palani.
