In a chat with Hindustan Times, Sourav while answering who is the most underrated Indian cricketer said,

“Anil Kumble. I think he is the biggest match winner India has ever produced.”

Ganguly and Kumble had spent more than a decade in the Indian dressing room starting with the late twentieth century and ending with the 2008 home Tests against Australia achieving many heights for the Indian team. It was Ganguly, who put his career at stake to include Kumble in the squad which was due to travel to Australia in 2003-04 to play four Tests.

Interestingly while Kumble unexpectedly retired after the Delhi Test against Australia in 2008, Ganguly hung his boots from international cricket after the next game in Nagpur.

On talking further about the same topic, Ganguly stated,

“We speak about a Sachin Tendulkar or a Virat Kohli or a Ravichandran Ashwin, but it is a fact that Kumble has won far more matches for India than anyone else.”

“Anil [Kumble] has been an absolute legend of the game, someone who has done more to win Test matches for India than anybody I know,” Dravid was heard saying.

The prolific leg-spinning wicket-taker had picked up 956 wickets for India across the two formats and had led India to victory in many matches.
