Gautam Gambhir Clarifies the Reason Behind the Resignation of DDCA's Cricket Committee

Out of favour Team India opener, Gautam Gambhir, who was elected as the skipper of Delhi for the first three matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018, has protested against the appointment of Manoj Prabhakar as Delhi’s bowling coach. There were speculations that it was because of Gambhir’s protest that Delhi District and Cricket Association’s (DDCA) Cricket Committee resigned.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Gambhir thought about clarifying the fact. He stated the real reason behind the resignation of the DDCA Cricket Committee. He also stated that he has zero tolerance level for any cricketer who was alleged of corruption in the recent past.

“It’s being said my protest against Manoj Prabhakar’s appointment as Delhi bowling coach has led to DDCA Cricket Committee’s resignation. Yes, I’ve always adopted zero tolerance when it comes to cricketers alleged of corruption. But the real reason for their resignation as told to me by Powers that be was that post-adoption of Lodha reforms on September 20th Cricket Committee will be disbanded. Just thought of clarifying,” Gambhir wrote.

The former Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) skipper is someone who is known to speak his heart out. He has never shied away from raising his voice against any wrongdoing.

Moreover, very recently he again hogged the limelight when he wore a saree to support the scrapping of the controversial 377 section. At times it seems too much from a cricketer of his calibre to always come in the forefront for baseless reasons.

Gambhir doesn’t share a great relationship with most of his India teammates. It is solely due to the sort of attitude he possesses and the way he handles himself off the field.

There is no doubt about the fact that he led the KKR quite admirably for seven years. However, when it comes to handling some superstars, he doesn’t have all the traits.

Recently in a web show, Gambhir stated that he was never fond of any cricketer since his childhood. He always aimed to have his own identity. These sort of statements doesn’t go down with all the cricketers.

It must be noted that Gambhir played two of his greatest knocks on two most important days in the history of Indian cricket. The southpaw scored a brilliant 75 in the Final of the ICC World Twenty20 2007. It eventually helped India lift their maiden and only T20 I till then.

The southpaw Gambhir also batted brilliantly in the final of the 2011 World Cup. Thus, it paved the way for a remarkable victory for India. Thisara Perera eventually castled him.

In conclusion, with DDCA overseeing the things for Delhi team, Gautam Gambhir will lead his side in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018. The tourney will commence from September 19.
