Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has cleared the air over his sour relationship with former Indian skipper MS Dhoni. Gambhir had given a controversial statement after his retirement in which he had taken a dig at MS Dhoni. The former southpaw batsman had said that he was surprised to note the peculiar selection strategies of Dhoni.

Gambhir revealed Dhoni told him that he cannot afford to play him, Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar in the same match to prepare India’s team for the 2015 World Cup. Thus, Gambhir was left perplexed that how can Dhoni start to think about 2015 in 2012. In fact, Dhoni went on to play all the three players in the Hobart match of the tri-series involving Australia and Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir cleared that there is no bad blood between him and MS Dhoni. In fact, Dhoni and Gambhir stitched the most important partnership in Indian cricket history in the final against Sri Lanka in ICC World Cup 2011.

“We’ve always been good friends. We’ve shared a room together during a camp in Bangalore, an Indian team camp. We’ve shared a fabulous relationship. These are all rumours. When you’ve done so many special things together for the country and you’ve shared the lowest moments and the best moments, how can there be any differences?”

I’ve never tried clarifying it. And I’m sure that he never tried clarifying that either because you trying to clarify things which are true. You don’t clarify rumours. You don’t need to clarify rumours either,” Gautam Gambhir was quoted as saying in The Quint.

On the other hand, Gautam Gambhir had lashed out at MS Dhoni after calling it a day from the game. Meanwhile, Gambhir was a big match player as he scored 75 in ICC World T20 in 2007 and scored 97 in the final of 2011 World Cup.

Dhoni came up with absurd selection policies.

“I think 2012 was too early for anyone to plan for 2015. I think you don’t plan three years before. I personally felt there was no need for that because you end up picking the best playing eleven which can win you the match. That is what I’ve always believed irrespective of what age you are at.

If you aren’t good enough, you shouldn’t be a part of the team. It’s not about you, it’s not about me, it’s about the entire nation. It’s not a club side. It’s about doing something for the nation because you are responsible and answerable to the entire country. I was a bit surprised, but that’s his call. He’s the captain and he has taken those decisions,” the Delhi-born cricketer added.

MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir shared a great bonhomie while playing in the Indian colours. Subsequently, they shared some of the best memories while playing with each other.
