Gautam Gambhir Congratulates Indian Hockey Team After a Thumping Victory Over Pakistan

It was a brilliant victory by Hockey India in the opening clash of the Kabaddi Champions Trophy 2018. The match was simply a foregone conclusion when India denied Pakistan an attempt to claw their way back into the match in the second half on Saturday (June 23).

Well, it was a Pakistani super raid which had reduced India to just three men on the court. Their lead was cut down to 13 points. However, the emergence of Sandeep Narwal changed the whole scenario of the game.

Narwal unleashed his trademark block which halted Pakistan from raid points. It was Ajay Thakur bagged a raid point. The Men in Blue recovered from the mini stutter and recovered in time to win the match quite comprehensively in the end.

A single Pakistani attempt to claw their way back into the match was prevented by India. On the other hand, they continued to rack up points.

It was Thakur, who set up the victory with a brilliant opening raid. A hand touch from the Indian skipper helped India get things underway. He targeted the two corner defenders on a consistent basis. It left a chance to leave any one of them on the bench.

???Their two corners Nasir Ali and Wasim Sajjad are the pillars of their defence. Ajay twice got each one of them out. Without that combination, their defence collapsed. Gambhir has been out of the national team for a long time now. He was recently appointed as the skipper of the Delhi Daredevils in Indian Premier League (IPL).

However, he stepped down from captaincy after a poor showing by Delhi in the first half of the tournament.

Gautam Gambhir remains the one and the only player who was instrumental in helping India win the inaugural World Twenty20 and the 2011 World Cup.
