Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has expressed his delightfulness at Mumbai Indians’ bowling department. Mumbai Indians, who are the defending champions, will take on Chennai Super Kings in the opening game of IPL 2020, who they also beat last year to capture their fourth IPL trophy. In particular, Gautam Gambhir is excited to watch Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah bowling in tandem.
Trent Boult came from Delhi Capitals as part of trading. Mumbai Indians have a plethora of options in their repertoire. While the franchise had to deal with Lasith Malinga pulling out, James Pattinson, who is his replacement, is a tough one to get away with. Jasprit Bumrah, who is one of the best bowlers at any stage of the game, will spearhead the attack while skipper Rohit Sharma also has Hardik Pandya. However, the absence of proven spinners is a chink in their armoury.
Gautam Gambhir reveals being excited to see how Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah bowl with the new ball since both are world-class and wicket-taking bowlers. Gambhir added that Boult is a left-arm seamer, best known for bringing the ball back in while Bumrah is more of an unorthodox bowler.
“I am really excited to watch how Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah will bowl with the new ball, because we all know Bumrah and Boult are world class bowlers, and in the T20 format both are wicket-taking options. A left-arm seamer, who will bring the ball inside for a right hand batsman while Jasprit Bumrah believes in an unorthodox style of bowling,” Gambhir said in the Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected.

The cricketer-turned-politician further said that he is more in favour of Mumbai Indians for the opening game due to their depth and team balance, acknowledging that Trent Boult is a fantastic inclusion. Gambhir realizes that every team wants a wicket-taking strike bowler and Rohit might wish to experiment with Bumrah, admitting he would like to see them how they do throughout the competition.
“I am skewed more towards Mumbai Indians for the opening match because if we notice the team balance and the depth of the squad while not forgetting the addition of Trent Boult in the squad can prove to be an excellent option. Every team wants a bowler who will take wickets with a new ball and use Jasprit Bumrah in an experimental way. I would want to see how these two bowlers perform with the new ball not only in the first match but throughout the tournament,” he added.
