Gautam Gambhir, former Indian opener, had many memorable duels with some of the best bowlers in the world during his playing days.
Known for his feisty character, Gautam Gambhir has a plethora of verbal battles, especially with Pakistani cricketers during his career, whether it was all-rounded Shahid Afridi or wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal.
Gambhir, however, recently picked a Pakistani bowler against whom he enjoyed some memorable battles.
According to the 2011 World Cup winner, former off-spinner Saeed Ajmal was one bowler that he enjoyed his battles with.
Hailing Ajmal as the toughest off-spinner he has ever faced, Gambhir reckoned that Ajmal’s doosra and the speed with which he used to bowl, made him an incredibly difficult bowler to counter especially under lights.
“One battle which I thoroughly enjoyed was against Saeed Ajmal. Because Ajmal was probably one of the toughest off-spinners I have faced, especially under lights as we couldn’t pick his Doosra. And the speed with which he used to bowl at, he was very very lethal,” Gautam Gambhir said on ‘Cricket Connected’.

Gambhir was also asked to name the Pakistani player with whom he enjoyed his verbal tussles the most. And, while the southpaw didn’t directly take his name, it was pretty clear whom he was referring to when he said “the world knows about that”
“The world knows about that. I absolutely loved it and even now,” Gautam Gambhir said.
Gambhir and Shahid Afridi’s rivalry goes back a long way. It all started during the 2007 ODI series between India and Pakistan where the duo got involved in a heated verbal altercation.
Since then, no love has been lost between the duo as they have, on a regular basis, proceeded to take jibes at each other on social media.
Recently, Gautam Gambhir wished Shahid Afridi a speedy recovery after the all-rounder was tested positive for Covid-19.
