Legendary Australian fast bowler, Glenn McGrath, feels that the upcoming Test series in Australia will be a great opportunity for opener Rohit Sharma to step-up to the occasions as a long-form player especially in the absence of regular skipper, Virat Kohli.
Indian captain Virat Kohli will return home following the culmination of the first Test at the Adelaide Oval in order to be with his wife Anushka Sharma, who is due for their first baby in January.

Glenn McGrath reckoned that the absence of Virat Kohli will be an ideal opportunity for the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul to rise to the occasion but according to the champion fast bowler, this might just turn out to be Rohit Sharma’s moment of truth in red-ball cricket.
Rohit Sharma is a quality batsman who hasn’t achieved at the Test level what he should be achieving in my opinion… Maybe when Virat goes home, he might step up. Having said that, you can’t just focus on one player. You have (Ajinkya) Rahane, (Cheteshwar) Pujara, (KL) Rahul, so there’s a quality batting line up. Once Virat leaves, it will be an opportunity for someone else to put their hand up and make a mark on the series. Maybe that could be Rohit Sharma,” Glenn McGrath was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
Will Rohit Sharma- the Test opener- step-up in Australia?

Rohit made his debut as a Test match opener in last years’ home series against South Africa. And, the ‘Hitman’ did that in resounding fashion as he became the first opener to smash hundreds in each innings of his debut Test as an opener.
But Rohit’s real challenge as an opener will come against the pace trio of Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins on the surfaces of Australia in the Test series, starting at the Adelaide Oval from December 17.
