Global T20 Canada Tournament Set to Kick off from June 28th

T20 leagues all across the world are becoming more famous each day. Hence due to the ever-increasing popularity of the shortest form of cricket leagues, Canada is all set to join in the action.

They are ready to host a “Global T20 Canada” which is set to take place between 28th June to 15th July this year. There is no doubt about that T20 tournament across the globe have helped youngsters rub shoulders with many international stalwarts.

This tournament might also be more of the same. However in which all players will be playing here among the known genre remains to be seen.

In the first of it’s kind in the country, Canada will be gearing up for the competition. It will also increase the popularity of the game in the country which is dominated by several Punjabi Indians. The league will see franchises taking part. Cricket Canada is organizing it in association with the Chennai-based Mercuri Group.

“Each team will play six games in the league phase: an initial round-robin followed by a single-match second round in which the teams will play one other opponent. The top four teams after the league phase advance to the playoffs beginning on July 12,” a report in the ESPN Cricinfo confirmed.

Quite like the IPL knockout stages, the two teams in the league stages will fight it out in the 1st Qualifier. The winner will directly go through to the final.

Then there will be the eliminator between the 3rd and the 4th place side. The winner of the match will meet the loser of Qualifier 1 in the Qualifier 2.

Eventually, the winner of Qualifier 2 will go head to head with the winner of Qualifier 1. As per the schedule released this week, the games are expected to hold 25 miles north of the downtown Toronto. It is the King City at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club.

The tournament will have a formal draft system which is done to fill up the six teams. It includes the Caribbean All Stars, Toronto Nationals, Montreal Tigers, Ottawa Royals, Vancouver Nights and Winnipeg Hawks. As per the rule, only four Canadian players are required to get drafted in every squad.

However, there is no rule of their inclusion in the starting XI. There has been no indication what so ever that whether foreign players will be in the pool of player’s draft.
