Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Liam Livingstone was in a murderous mood as he smashed Gujarat Titans (GT) ace bowler Mohammad Shami for 28 runs in the 16th over the chase to finish the match and win it by 8 wickets for his franchise.
Livingstone outshone Shikhar Dhawan who scored 62* runs and Bhanuka Rajapaksa who made 40 in 28 balls, with his cameo of 30* runs in 10 balls. His hitting was so brutal that the match ended in 16 overs giving a massive boost to PBKS’ net run rate as they won the game by 8 wickets, chasing down the 144-run target with ease.
Earlier, Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Hardik Pandya chose to bat first after winning the toss and posted 143/8 on the board with Sai Sudharsan making 65* in 50 balls with 5 fours and 1 six. The next best scorer was Wriddhiman Saha with 21 runs, as Kagiso Rabada of PBKS took 4/33.
Rabada was named the Player of the Match as well for his brilliant bowling.
Liam Livingstone Hits 117 Meter Monstrous Six Off Mohammad Shami To Tee Off
Not much was expected when Hardik Pandya threw the ball to Mohammad Shami to bowl the 16th over as PBKS required 27 runs to win from 5 overs at that stage.
However, Livingstone started off with a bang as he hit a monstrous 117 meter six off the first ball, which hit the boards on the 15th row of upper stands of the DY Patil Stadium over the square leg. The next ball was a knee-length full-toss which Liam deposited on the leg-side for a 96-meter six.
The third ball was set into space as Livingstone fended off a bouncer and the top edge barely landed over the ropes over the keeper’s head. The fourth ball was a slower one, which Liam hit for a four behind square and took a double of the 5th ball.
The last delivery saw the England batter throwing his bat at a wide ball and getting a four as the ball flew over the third man for a four and PBKS won the match by 8 wickets with Livingstone having scored 28 runs in the over.
